JOHN McNAMARA, Chief Investment Officer

John McNamara is the Chief Investment Officer of Hedgeye Asset Management, LLC (“HAM”), a subsidiary of Hedgeye Risk Management, LLC (“Hedgeye”). HAM is an SEC-registered investment adviser that manages exchange-traded funds, indices, and model portfolios leveraging Hedgeye’s proprietary research. Prior to his current role, John was a Portfolio Manager at Sierpinski Capital Management LP and transitioned to Chief Investment Officer of HAM following Sierpinski’s partnership with Hedgeye. Earlier in his career, he worked in portfolio management and trading roles at MSK Capital Partners and Melchior/Dalton Strategic Partnership, where he frequently utilized Hedgeye research. He began his career in the Equities division of Deutsche Bank Securities, serving across Research and Sales & Trading. John earned a B.A. in Finance and Economics from Michigan State University in 2013.

SAM RAHMAN, Portfolio Manager

Sam Rahman is a seasoned investment professional with over 30 years of experience analyzing global equities, industries, and thematic trends, and more than 25 years managing portfolios across major financial centers including Boston, London, Hong Kong, and Singapore. From 2008 to 2023, Sam was a key leader at Crosby Advisors, the Johnson/Fidelity Family Office, where he was personally recruited by Ned Johnson to oversee the family’s multi-billion-dollar public equity portfolio. At Crosby, he built and managed concentrated large-cap growth and balanced equity/bond strategies, directed the investment process, and led a team of six analysts. Previously, Sam spent 15 years at Baring Asset Management (1993–2008), ultimately serving as Head of U.S. Equities, where he managed U.S. and global portfolios and led a team of five analysts. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a disciplined approach to portfolio construction, a deep commitment to fundamental research, and strong leadership in investment strategy.

DAVID SALEM, Portfolio Manager

David Salem brings decades of expertise in designing and managing large-scale investment programs for mission-driven institutions. As a partner at GMO, he worked closely with founder Jeremy Grantham to create and oversee commingled funds for many of America’s largest foundations. He went on to become the founding president and chief investment officer of The Investment Fund for Foundations (TIFF), launched with $2.5 million in seed grants led by the MacArthur Foundation. Over nearly two decades, David directed investment programs that deployed more than $8 billion on behalf of 800+ endowed charities. He also designed and managed multi-asset investment vehicles that served as comprehensive solutions for these institutions. David earned a JD, cum laude, from Harvard Law School and an MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar. A member of the District of Columbia Bar, he has also taught at Middlebury College and the University of Virginia. Earlier in his career, while studying at Harvard, he served in the White House Counsel’s Office.

R. PATRICK KENT, Portfolio Manager

R. Patrick Kent is an accomplished investment professional with more than 25 years of experience managing long/short, opportunistic equity, and thematic global strategies. He currently serves as President of the Biophysical Economics Institute. Previously, he was at Newton Investment Management, where he managed billions in small- and mid-cap investments and led a team of researchers. Before Newton, Patrick co-developed and managed the first diversified public equity impact fund at Wellington Management, where he also served on the Private Equity Pricing Committee. Earlier in his career, he held investment roles at Schroders and SAC Capital. Over the last 15 years, Patrick has consistently incorporated Hedgeye’s macro and stock research into his investment strategies.

NEIL HOWE, Portfolio Manager

Neil Howe is a renowned historian, economist, and demographer, Neil Howe is best known as the co-author of The Fourth Turning, the influential book that introduced a groundbreaking theory on generational cycles shaping history. He also coined the term “Millennials,” helping define an entire generation and its impact on society, culture, and markets. A leading authority on generations and social change, Howe is also recognized for his expertise in global aging, long-term fiscal policy, and migration. He serves as a Senior Associate at both the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and the Global Aging Institute in Washington, D.C. Howe has authored more than a dozen books, including The Fourth Turning Is Here (2023), The Graying of the Great Powers (2008), Millennials Rising (2000), The Fourth Turning (1997), Generations (1991), and On Borrowed Time (1989). His research and commentary have been showcased broadly across major television, print, and digital media. He earned his B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds graduate degrees in economics and history from Yale University.
